Description

Abell 61
PK 077+14.1

Abell 61 is a faint and Ancient Planetary Nebula located in the Constellation Cygnus. It is located around 4,500 light years away and its age is estimated to be around 22,000 years. The central star's apparent brightness is 17.39 in magnitude, and its surface temperature is over 60,000 Kelvin.
The diameter of Abell 61 is about 3.3 arc minutes, so it is similar in size to the more popular M97 Owl Nebula, but is about 100 times fainter.

Abell 61 is a little usual as it has a Narrow Outer Ring projecting around the central core but does not encompass the entire circumference. I was pleased to resolve the ring with my refractor.

Acquisition Notes:
The PN shows up well in both Oxygen and Hydrogen subs with O3 being the more dominate element.
Five-minute subs were sufficient to bring out the nebulosity in each filter.

Equipment Upgrade:
First Light on my new ED127 FCD-100 Carbon Fiber. Same scope as its aluminum brother but lighter and better at holding focus. See Version F for pic.

Thanks, Eddie
